Okay, so it’s still pretty chilly in New York, but that doesn’t stop retailers from stocking shelves with this year’s warm weather inventory. Fashion never sleeps, and spring styles refuse to hibernate until the climate adjusts to the editorial calendar. Last September, designers debuted their Spring 2018 collections, and their creative visions overlapped in more ways than one. Hence, this season’s trends were born. Here are five prominent motifs that are sure to transfer from runway to street style before you’ve even packed up your winter parkas.
Millennial pink had a shining moment last year, but we’ve got a new color crush on the scene this spring. The equally feminine lavender shade was a consistent theme in many Spring 2018 shows. The hue is enchanting, sophisticated, and cool all at once. Who’s ready for a whimsical dose of wisteria?
It might not sound like the coziest option, but vinyl and plastic materials made their way down the runway in all types of garments. From plastic trench coats to transparent booties, weather-proofed outfits never looked so good.
Fashion and art often intersect, but the two have quite literally collided this Spring. You may have to head to The Met to see original paintings and masterpieces, but this season you may just as well find copies of art-infused prints in the window displays on Fifth Ave. We’re talking about dresses and separates peppered in punchy Andy Warhol prints, quirky comic strips, and even Georgia O’Keeffe motifs.
High and low fashion have repurposed the traditional boho trend into a trim fit for all aesthetics. You don’t have to be a flower child or western woman to hit it off with the fringe trend. From cocktail dresses to trench coats to miniskirts, free-spirited fringe has been chic-a-fied.
Forget leaving it up to the imagination. Sheer, romantic, and delicate fabrics like tulle and chiffon were aptly layered over more opaque pieces to add some dreamy dimension. One-ply is going to be fly this season.
These are just a few of my favorite trend predictions for the season. I can’t wait to start shopping these spring trends and put my own spin on the styles of the season. Stay tuned to see how the designer’s visions come to fruition in the closets of fashionistas everywhere. And don’t forget to tweak each trend and make it your own.
