When it comes to creating an outfit, the end product feels incomplete without a swipe of lipstick. Who could rock the red carpet without a red lip? One of my favorite parts of getting ready for the office, a dinner date, or an event, is choosing which lipstick shade enhances my look. In my opinion, a swipe of lipstick is just as essential for pulling an ensemble together as a bag or brushed hair. It’s the finishing touch, the cherry on top, the game changer.
Recently, I had the chance to head into my Sephora inside JCPenney to check out Fenty Beauty’s latest launch: the Mattemoiselle lipstick collection. I find it so convenient that you head to JCPenney to pick up some trendy new pieces, and also stock up on all of the makeup brands you love. All my fellow moms out there know about the time struggle, especially between mom duty and work. Any store that condenses my stops on errand days is a win in my eyes.
In case she wasn’t already crushing it enough in the music industry, Rihanna has been making waves with her Fenty Beauty line. The Mattemoiselle collection includes 14 gorgeous lipsticks with high-octane pigments and velvety, matte finishes inspired by rose petals. I love that Fenty’s products are universally flattering, and work well with any skin tone! She created versatile shades that make it so easy to go from day to night and transition from look to look. The matte finish is fantastic because you get rich color without the weight or bleeding of normal lipsticks. Plus the chic slim design allows you to throw several in your purse in case your aesthetic shifts from preppy to punk in the timespan of one day.
I had my makeup done by a Sephora inside JCPenney Education Manager, and she gave me the perfect base for some bold lips. After I had my Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r foundation on and some subtle but glamorous eyeshadow, it was time for me to choose which Mattemoiselle lip shades were going home with me (this time around). I selected one classic shade, one trendy color, and one hue that was slightly out of my beauty comfort zone. They all exuded a different mood so I had fun pulling together JCPenney outfits to correspond with my lipstick.
Look #1 Girl Boss
I wanted to create an outfit that would accommodate my everyday hustle and allow me to run around the city while still looking polished for meetings. I went with a classic black, white, and denim ensemble in a crisp silhouette. Dark skinny jeans, a white tee, and layered chokers sound like an “I’m with the band,” type of outfit, but a structured black blazer changes everything. When you have a classic look like this, it’s good to add an unexpected detail or two. I chose to swipe on Mattemoiselle’s fierce Freckle Fiesta matte lipstick. Instead of your typical red or blush lip, this subdued orange added a pop of color as well as unpredictability to my look. Every girl boss knows you have to keep them on their toes.
Look #2 Pretty In Pink
Every hardcore girly girl has a soft spot for pink, and I’m no exception. Some days I feel like bringing back 90s grunge and other days I’m feeling more like valley-girl Cher from Clueless. I saw this feminine bubblegum pink sweater that reminded me of sweet dreams and I had to buy it. Pair the top with denim, heels, and sparkly drop earrings (similar) and you’ll have the perfect style recipe for a girl’s day out or a casual Saturday shopping and bopping around the city. To complete the ladylike look, I wanted an electric pop of pink on my lips. Mattemoiselle‘s Candy Venom shade worked perfectly with my girly get-up. The bright hue is bold, playful, and you guessed it, a girly girl’s dream.
Look #3 Rocker Chick
For my last look, I wanted to create a more mysterious and edgy vibe. I paired my Levi’s with a sheer black top with vertical stripes and captivating feathered navy earrings (similar). I tossed a camel coat (similar) over my shoulders to stay warm in style. This outfit is made for dinner and a concert or for visiting a trendy bar with an underground feel. To complete the dark and angsty atmosphere, I needed a deep, intoxicating lip color. The Mattemoiselle Clapback hue was a new phenomenon for me as I don’t normally wear navy lipstick. But the alternative color was perfect for my edgy vibe. This Clapback shade is fantastic for any woman who dares to set trends, vibes with the world of rock n’ roll, or is unafraid to turn heads.
Whether your muse is Grace Kelly or Joan Jett, the Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle collection has a gorgeous matte shade to fit your fashion sense. Be sure to head to your local Sephora inside JCPenney to get a glimpse of the 14 beautiful colors in the collection. But be warned: it will be hard to leave with only one.
