Mom On Duty: Sweater Dress Style

Recently, the entire Scout household was suffering from one type of ailment or another. I found myself taking London to school, rushing Rio to the doctor, finding out he has asthma (ah!), heading to the office, rushing around to pick up medicine, and basically walking the length of the city of Manhattan in the time span of one day. When you’re on mom duty, you can’t mess around with too much extravagance. Otherwise, you could very well end up in the middle of the street with a heel stuck in a sewer grate instead of getting to daycare pick-up on time…

I threw this look together the morning when all hell started to break loose because I knew I’d be running around like a madwoman. Pro mom tip: invest in a comfy but stylish sweater dress because it’s so easy to throw on for daily tasks. This H&M hooded gray knit version is a cool midi length and the side slits add a little zest to the silhouette (similar long & short). In order to keep my feet happy, I styled the dress with a pair of fresh white ankle boots. The boots are flat so that I can easily run errands and pick up the kids, but the color makes them modern and eye-catching. To add an extra detail, I wore gray ankle socks that poked out of the shoe and tied in with the color scheme.

Every mom needs a place to put her stuff. This black Saint Laurent shoulder bag can also be worn crossbody so that you’re hands-free. I love a structured handbag and this one is a good size to fit your essentials plus some extra kid necessities, such as a baby food pouch for Rio and London’s latest toy obsession. You know, just your standard provisions. If you’ve had a long night or are in for a long day, there’s zero shame in wearing sunglasses, regardless of whether the sun is, in fact, out. Stock up on some classic shades and throw a few of funky pairs in the mix. These Saint Laurent sunglasses have a cheeky cat eye shape that is reminiscent of a sixties chick at a ski lodge (similar).

Finally, I tossed an ankle length camel coat by Mackage over my shoulders to keep warm (similar). Does this coat remind anyone else of Mr. McCallister in Home Alone? I feel like I should be running through the airport trying to make my flight, but hey, my current situation is not too far off. Such is the life of a mom on duty.
