Love is in the air, guys. Or maybe it’s just written on my outfit.
February is the month where pink, red, and purple dominate your wardrobe, rom-com marathons take over weekend TV, and candy hearts beckon to you from drugstore displays. Hate it or love it, Valentine’s Day is coming in hot. Whether you’re looking forward to steamy plans with your S.O., heading out on the town with your girlfriends, or just treating yourself to some much-needed pampering, this time of year creates an opportunity to give your relationships some TLC.
Regardless of your relationship status, it’s always fun to put your own spin on the standard feminine aesthetic of V-Day and create outfits that are fierce and festive. The classic date night dress and heels is always a classy option, but I wanted to step outside the box and flirt with the unexpected.
Regardless of what your Valentine’s Day week looks like, I’m bringing you two looks that are equal parts unconventional and festive.
Look 1: Eclectic Layers
I put a few twists on a standard date night dress by adding layers and quirky details. I got this pink and black striped dress from Mango, and I thought it was a perfect piece to slip into for any engagement from gal’s dinners to work meetings. The trendy midi-length, silky fabric, and feminine color combo caught my eye. If you want to create an eclectic ensemble, layering is a foolproof way to do so. I topped the dress with a cozy knit sweater, and instantly my look was upgraded. When you throw a sweater over a dress you create a completely different look. Choose a cropped sweater to show off the layer statement or a long one to make ‘em ask: where’d you find that skirt?
I’m going to be very open with you about my obsession with socks and heels. My best friend Angela’s mom sent me a bunch of beautiful, funky sheer socks from Korea. I can’t stop wearing them with heels, and you know what? I don’t want to stop. These gold Gucci heels are transformed when paired with the black patterned socks. This is another eclectic outfit booster, aaaand a smart way to keep your toes warm until Spring graces us with its presence. I grabbed a structured bag from Zara that matched the outfit color scheme (sold out, shop similar). The black color mixed with the basket material makes it work from winter all the way into summer. Finally, I topped off the look with mirrored glasses and gold jewelry.

Look 2: Suited Up
Who says you can’t rock a pantsuit on a date or even for a girls’ night out? Suiting has been making a comeback in women’s fashion in a big way, and I’m all about it. I snagged this pantsuit from H&M (coming soon!), and in case you’re not rocking 20/20 vision, the navy kimono-esque jacket and ankle length trousers are swathed in the word “love”. Fitting no? This pantsuit is an unconventional but fierce look for your February plans. I paired it with a soft pink sweater, but you can also rock your standard white blouse for a more classic look. I also tossed this pink wool coat from Mango over the ensemble to tie the colors together. Usually, I’m not a fan of being too “matchy-matchy,” but since the suit is patterned from head to toe, I wanted to ground everything with the same color. By contrasting the masculinity of the pantsuit silhouette with the girliest shade of pink, I’ve got the perfect eclectic outfit for V-Day festivities.
White boots brighten up the look further, and the kitten heels make the ensemble playful and wearable. I’ve been wearing these since last summer, and it really goes to show that the white boot trend could be incorporated into my wardrobe in all weather conditions. My mirrored sunglasses enhance the masculine vibes of the suit, but the pops of pink color add just the right amount of flirtatious to the look. I wanted to add another burst of pattern so I grabbed this whimsical, floral Stacy drawstring bag from Furla. Pro tip: if you’re hesitant about mixing prints, start by pairing a patterned top or bottom with a cheeky handbag.
