5 Tips To Starting a Blog

5 tips to starting a blog

I have had a lot of questions about starting a blog and wanted to give you guys a few pointers. I started blogging a little over a year ago and have learned a lot in such a short amount of time! Here are a few tips to get your blog up and running in no time!

1. Pick a name and niche: I know this sounds ridiculous for me to tell you this but you need to pick a name that stands out since you will be using it constantly! Have a logo created that is simple yet recognizable when someone sees it. Get creative and think outside the box when it comes to your blog’s niche. Theres so many blogs out there that it is imperative that you stand out and be different.

2. Buy a domain and hosting. Once you decide on a blog name you should purchase a domain name. Depending on what site you go to, they’ll usually give you a free domain with the purchase of hosting. I recommend that you purchase hosting if you plan on creating a self hosted site. I used Go daddy as well as Domain.com.

3. WordPress: I highly recommend using a self hosted wordpress site so you don’t have to transfer over later down the road. WordPress has some pretty impressive templates that come equipped with all the bells and whistles you will be looking for. Try searching some of  the themes here.

4. Creating your site: Most of us know nothing about coding. It seems scary and confusing if you never attempted web design before. Once you pick a WordPress theme, I suggest you hire someone to do all the coding for you. If you’re on a tight budget then try outsourcing the help and hire a wordpress designer from Elance or Upwork. I personally use Upwork all the time and love it. Just make sure you interview your favorite candidates so you get the right fit.

5. Imagery: Last but not least is imagery. You need some pretty fun and exciting content on a constant basis. iPhone photos are not going to cut it. I suggest investing in a quality camera to aid in your new blogging journey. If the thought of using a DSLR camera frightens you try using a mirrorless camera. I have to admit, I really want to get my hands on the new sony nex-7. You can also get some tips here if you’re interested in using a DSLR camera.

The hardest part about creating a blog is starting! I would love to know if any of you are interested in starting this digital journey so comment below with your blog name and I will check it out!

Thanks for stopping by.

I have my little blog from few months. http://Www.simplebabylife.com
Decision was pretty fast from one day to another. I had my camera from few years, pictures of my son and technician help from my husband, who works in IT. I used Go daddy and my start was easy. But I wish to upgrade and promote my blog.
I like your layout. Which thyme are you using?
I am sure there is a lot thinks I don’t know about blogging and wish to learn

Hi! My blog is online from just a few weeks. I am now working with mom to find a nice template and a domain. I was thinking to keep the domain’s name my own name LUCIASTASIA, what you think about this? Maybe is wrong, but I would like to associate in the future my name to some products, meaning a label. I follow you on periscope also with @miltonfirenze (my parents id). Check out my blog https://luciastasia.wordpress.com and feel free to get me a feedback! Love you girls! You are just amazing!

I published my blog, Style Me Nude, December 2015. It was challenging opening up to the entire world about my thoughts, opinions, experiences, etc. But I’ve sought wonderful opportunities along the way. This post is encouraging and very true. Thanks London and Sai! stylemenude.com

I just found out about you & Scout from this morning’s Facebook live stream (via Lilly Pulitzer) and I love your personality! I *just* started my blog about 2 weeks ago, and it’s been a little challenging to promote… but so fun to write! Sometimes I just want to document everything and I have to hold myself back lol. For sure I hope that I keep blogging for years to come, and I’ll be on the Twitter hangout looking for your tips!

      Hi Laura!

So Happy you found me. If you like to document parts of your life have you ever thought about vlogging? I just started and I love it! Starting a blog can be frustrating but just try to partner with other smaller bloggers and friends to help spread the word.

I know is an older post, but I’m trying to put more effort into my blog so I decided to check it out for pointers. I’ve had my blog for quite a while but, with working full time and also having an active 6 year old, it always gets pushed to the back burner. I love the brand that you’ve created for you and your daughter! I’m hoping I can one day soon go full time with blogging. The hardest part I’ve found is the constant posts and driving traffic. My blog is http://sweetlystyledstudio.com/
