Slick Back Hair Tutorial

Ever since I saw this slick back hairstyle hit the runways of NYFW I knew I had to try it! My hair texture is little more course than the models sporting these looks but I thought I would give it a try anyway. Sometimes I feel limited to the things I can do with my hair because of my curly locks but I shouldn’t! Possibilities are endless when it comes to a blow dryer and a few Nexxus products.

I went to Nexxus New York Salon in Tribeca to get a few pointers on how to pull off this high fashion look and to my surprise it was pretty easy! I was worried that the product would make my curls return in the front but we were careful not to use too much. I hope you get inspired to try this look and let me know what you think.

Clean Hair

To begin, start off by washing your hair. I used the Nexxus Oil Infinite Shampoo & Conditioner enriched with Babassu and Marula oil. It smoothes my hair for a soft glossy finish.

Blow Dry

After washing and conditioning, it’s time to blow out the hair. To avoid any frizz, use a few pumps of Nexxus Oil Infinite Nourishing Hair Oil.

Get It Straight

In order to achieve the slick back look, your hair will need to be very straight. Begin to blow dry the hair straight. Separate the hair into smaller sections and run a flat iron through each piece to achieve this straight hair look.

Check for damaged ends. I was able to get a small trim from Nexxus Global Creative Director, Kevin Mancuso, to get rid of most of my split-ends but I need to go more often.  They say every 3 months you’re due for a trim, but let’s face it, I never remember to go.

Start finger combing your hair back. Use your fingers to run a light weight gel or pomade, in my case, the Nexxus Exxpand + Volumizing Whip to keep hair in place and prevent fly-aways. This particular whip worked well with this hairstyle because it didn’t leave my hair stiff and gave it some volume. In this step, you can also take the time to lay your edges.

Finishing Touches

Place a few bobby pins to keep your side hairs in place and add that NYFW touch. Finish your style with Nexxus Comb Thru Volume Finishing Mist for a flexible hold.

Step 5

You can air dry or diffuse the hair. Once the hair is dry, add a couple more drops of the Oil Infinite Nourshing Oil to complete the look. My hair usually soaks up product so this is why I add just a few more drops at the end.

You did the right thing and should wear it all the time. It is the best and the sexiest look. Wonderful. Why no trying of more extreme variations?
